This recipe would not win any healthy awards. But it is a great way to make quick French Toast for the whole family and use up the last few slices of bread that always don’t get eaten fresh for some reason or another. Serves 6
¾ cup Brown Sugar
½ cup Butter
12 pieces of bread (can be stale)
12 eggs
1 cup milk
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
Preheat the oven to 375. While the oven is preheating, place the butter and brown sugar in a 9 by 16 baking dish and place in the oven. Pull the hot dish out of the oven when the butter melts. Stir the melted butter into the brown sugar and spread evenly on the bottom of the pan. Place the first layer of two layers of bread slices in the baking dish. Remember that it is hot so don’t touch the sides. In a separate bowl crack and add the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Whisk together. Pour 1/2 of the mixture over the first layer. Place the next layer of bread and pour the remaining egg mixture over the top of all the bread. Make sure all the bread is damp. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the egg mixture is cooked through. You can test this by inserting a butter knife in the middle and it should come out clean! Eat warm!
