Do You Feel the Invisible Pressure to “Catch Up”?

If you’re overwhelmed by homesteading and feel pressure to catch up before you even begin, you’re not alone.

Do you see others — in real life or on Instagram — building a homestead, growing food, and living a life that looks purposeful and peaceful… and wonder how they do it all?

You might think:

  • She has milk goats — should I get them too?

  • She’s finding her purpose — but I’m not organized enough, or I don’t have the land she does.

  • She’s gardening, cooking from scratch, and still finding time for God — and I can barely keep up with my day.

And suddenly, a quiet longing turns into pressure.

I’m behind.

 I’ll never catch up.

If I can’t go all-in, what’s the point?

What if I start and fail?

Pause for a moment.

Take a breath.

These thoughts are common — but they don’t lead to peace.

They convince you that:

  • you must rush

  • you must do everything at once

  • you must prove your seriousness

But this way of thinking doesn’t bring clarity or purpose. It leads to burnout, frustration, and  homestead overwhelm.

I know — because I’ve thought these same things myself.

Many women resist starting small because it feels like admitting they’re behind. We confuse faithfulness with intensity and worry that slow progress means wasted time.

But starting small doesn’t mean you aren’t serious.

It means you’re building something that lasts.

“Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much.” — Luke 16:10

You’ve been called to a different path — not for a season, but for a lifetime. And lasting growth requires roots.

Roots grow quietly.

They form in hidden places.

They take time and care.

At first, nothing visible seems to happen — and that isn’t failure.

That is strength.

That is purpose.

This is Stage 2 of the Purposeful Growing Journey and it focuses on starting a homestead without being overwhelmed by building roots through small, faithful actions.

After you recognize the invitation to a simple homestead lifestyle, it’s natural to want everything all at once. But if you want sustainability, faith, and peace, this stage asks you to slow down and build roots.

This is where overwhelm begins to give way to clarity.

Faithfulness here looks small and steady.

It might mean:

  • choosing one small habit to learn

  • learning one new skill

  • observing your season instead of fighting it

  • releasing unrealistic timelines

Remember:

Faithfulness in this season looks quiet. And that’s exactly how strong roots are formed.

If you’re feeling the pressure to do more before you feel ready, the next step isn’t action — it’s clarity.

The Purposeful Growing Journey Quiz will help you identify the stage you’re in and what small, faithful steps look like for you right now.

You don’t need to catch up. You just need to begin where you are.
